Work out the Basics In order to create a family of content, you must first understand the basic fundamentals of design. Deferring to the grid, plus thinking of your content as a family of cohesive posts, is the best possible way of achieving this. That way whenever somebody sees one of your posts in their feed, they instinctively know that it’s one of yours. On Instagram, you’re looking to create that same feeling. They have a sound that you can identify and understand to be uniquely theirs. Within seconds of one of their songs playing, you know that it’s them. How can I make sure that every post I put out looks and feels in keeping with my brand?.What ties this post to the last one and that one to the one before it?.Do I have too many different things going on?.Have I got too much of one type of content and not enough of another?.How would it look if I post these two images next to each other?.Once you understand this, it starts to stir up some interesting questions: To put it another way, how they look when viewed all together in the grid. However, given Instagram is by default a visual platform, give some additional thought not only to how each individual post looks, but how they stack up as a family. Those new to Instagram think that, like Twitter, it’s about putting out one good post after another. It’s also the place where potential followers will make the decision to follow an account or not. This is the single most important aspect of Instagram, as it’s the main feature of any profile. Image via GraphicChasers.īefore you do anything else, familiarize yourself with the grid. Start with the Big Picture Begin by familiarizing yourself with the grid. This is the art and science of the grid, and this article shows you how it’s done. Those that have the biggest followings and the greatest reach know how to deploy good design in order to create a shop window that viewers simply can’t walk past. The very best Instagram accounts know the power of first impressions. You see, the very best accounts on Instagram are the ones that package their content in an enticing and captivating way. What did they have in common? What was it that made you follow them? Chances are, you took one look at their grid - all their posts lined up in neat little squares on their profile - and you thought: “Wow, that looks good.” Think about any of the accounts you have followed recently on Instagram. Here are ten eye-grabbing styles that will inspire you. The best Instagram accounts are the ones that speak directly to your own sensibilities. The products that Anki produced were also performing really well in the market and at a competitive price tag of under $300, they seemed to do what their competitors in this industry could not. This is not something you would expect from a company that is a brainchild of Carnegie Mellon graduates, and a company that raised close to $200 million in VC funding. The total funding to date is $182.5 million.Īnki barely lasted for a decade and completely ceased operations by the end of April 2019. In June 2016, the company announced its latest round of funding, which amounted to $52.5M, also led by JP Morgan. In September 2014, Anki announced that it had raised another $55 million in Series C venture funding led by JP Morgan. The company received $50 million in Series A and Series B venture funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures, and Two Sigma. Anki’s Cozmo and its successor Vector were 2 products that showed quite a high level of sophistication in what was coined as "AI emotional intelligence" which in other words means the capacity to show "emotion" to new stimuli. This was in order to make them appear more lifelike to their human companions. Cozmo, in fact, came with programing tools ranging from a simple drag-and-drop interface based on MIT’s Scratch Blocks to a full software development kit in the Python programming language.Īccording to Boris Sofman, the company’s CEO and co-founder, their goal was to create robots that “feel alive.” This included creating naturalistic imperfections in how they moved around, for example. The sophistication of Cozmo even made it to Carnegie Mellon University (the founders’ alma mater), where it was used for college-level robotics classes. Anki also released other successful products like Anki Overdrive (the successor of Anki Drive) and an interactive toy robot called Cozmo, as well as a more advanced version of Cozmo, called the Vector. Their first successful product was the Anki Drive which combined a toy racing car and track set with an iOS app for controlling and programming the toy cars. Anki programmed objects so that they could be intelligent and adapt to the physical world, with the aim of solving the problems of positioning, reasoning, and execution in artificial intelligence and robotics. Anki was a robotics and AI startup founded in 2010 that aimed to integrate robotics and IoT (Internet of Things) into children's toys and games. Additionally, liability insurance is typically not included so you wouldn’t be protected from costs in the event you damage or injure passengers in another vehicle. Personal belongings (such as a purse or wallet stolen from a car) are often excluded from coverage. There is also a limit on the amount of days coverage is valid so, for example, you might be covered for a rental for up to 20 consecutive days in your home country or up to 30 consecutive days in foreign countries. Some credit cards may also put limits on the type of vehicles you can rent, and may exclude specialty vehicles, like vans, vintage cars, exotic or luxury cars like Lexus, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari and motorcycles. You’ll also normally have to decline the rental agency’s collision damage waiver for your credit card insurance to kick in.įurthermore, most credit card providers put a cap on the value of the car they will cover (for example, a car with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price up to a max of $75,000). The cardholder will usually be required to be the primary renter, and denerally, secondary drivers will only be covered if they are listed as drivers on the rental contract. Sometimes referred to as collision damage waivers (CDW) and/or loss damage waivers (LDW), these policies generally cover damage and theft of any rental car you charge to the card, up to the value of the vehicle. With the right card, you could save hundreds of dollars and enjoy a stress-free rental process. Road trips can be a big part of the travel experience so it’s no surprise that many credit cards (especially travel rewards cards) offer rental car insurance. To date, all of our expenses have been met (without Loans) and the business is Debt-Free…Īlright – so let’s talk business. The following Scripture was my motto as I faced various challenges- “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” Philippians 4:13. It has not been a smooth road, The biggest challenge that I faced was the loss of my mother and the paralysis of my body, the lesser challenge was when we relocated the business to Arlington/Pantego, sales decreased and the rent was higher however I held onto my “Dream” believing and trusting that God would help us keep the Boutique profitable. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way? Each year since 2014, Timeless Treasures Vintage & More has placed consecutively 4th place to 2nd place in 2017 on the Dallas A-List in the Best Vintage and Resale Category. We decided to relocate the business to Arlington/Pantego and changed the name to Timeless Treasures Vintage & More. The building that Fabulously Frugale Boutique was located in was sold and the new owner took possession of the building to open a restaurant. Fabulously Frugale Vintage Boutique was nominated and placed 5th on the Dallas A-List in the Best Vintage and Resale Category in 2014. I did not have available cash to finance the business (purchase new merchandise) and I did not want to borrow money so I researched and opened the store as a Consignment Boutique. During the initial year that I was open, my Mother died and I had a Major Stroke that rendered me into a Hemiplegic (completely paralyzed on the left side of my body).įast forward to 2009, we relocated to Irving, Texas, I was no longer paralyzed and I again pursued my “Dream” and opened Fabulously Frugale Vintage Boutique in Irving, TX on Main Street. Armed with the information and leads from my co-workers, within six (6) months in 1994, I had obtained financing, rented a vacant shoppe, completed all of the necessary paperwork to legally start a business in New Jersey, bought Upscale merchandise from Designers and Wholesalers in New York, resigned from my Social Services job and opened Elegante’ Woman Boutique in Hackensack, NJ. I continued to work in my Social Service job, but I was so excited about the possibility of opening the Boutique, I began to tell people at work about my plans to open the Boutique. As he spoke with me, I realized that the time had come for me to pursue my dream of opening a Boutique. I was unaware that only retail store owners were allowed to visit with the wholesalers so I visited with one of the wholesalers without permission. As Fate would have it, a Boutique Trade Show was set up in the lobby of the hotel that we were staying in. While we were in Hackensack, we drove to Philadelphia, Pa. One of my husband’s corporate relocations took us to Hackensack, N.J. I got married and worked in various Social Service positions, continuously being relocated (Corporate transfers) to various cities in the U.S. To satisfy my parents, I enrolled in College at the University of Texas at Arlington and received a B.A. I held onto this Dream even though I was told by numerous people that my “Dream” was crazy. I told her that I wanted to own a Boutique since I had read about Boutiques in Magazines and actually visited a Boutique in Dallas with my mother. I wanted to own a Boutique ever since I was 12 years old, when I was asked by my 6th Grade teacher, what did I want to do when I grew up. Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah and Michael Gallaway.ĭeborah and Michael, please share your story with us. |
